Audi published the first official photos of the new A1 Metroproject Quattro concept, which will be launched at the Tokyo Auto Show. The design of the small A1 brings more masculinity for a model in the mini class.
The series model will be the main rival of the Mini Cooper model. The new concept has a well shown aggressivity which "scares" the competition. The front grid along with the lines of the body give a unique look to the last Audi concept.
The new Audi concept is equipped with a 150 bhp 1.4 TFSI engine. Thanks to a 41 bhp electric engine positioned in the back, the A1 has a 200 Nm bigger torque in the moment of a kick-down.
The addition of the electric engine was thought for the city areas where the CO2 emissions have to be low. A1 Metroproject Quattro managed to sort out this problem, because the CO2 emissions are zero when switching to the power of the electric engine. The A1 can run on the electric engine for aprox. 100 km until the lithium-ion batteries have to be recharged.
The performances of the small concept can't be overlooked: it takes the A1 7.8 sec. to go from 0-100 km/h and the maximum speed is 201 km/h. The CO2 emissions are below the future maximum values accepted in the EU, 112g/km.
The length of the concept is 3.910 mm, the width is 1.750 mm. The interior can easily host 4 people. The carrier has a capacity of 240 liters.
A1 Metroproject is at the same technical level as other Audi models like the TT and the R8.
